The Miracle of the Kitchen Matches

Out of the red and blue box
of jumbled kitchen matches -- ordinary, identical --
fall Siamese twins
joined at the head,
red caps fused together,
narrow bodies awkwardly askew
at an angle that is perfectly lifelike.
Wonder of nature,
one spark would light two flames, but perhaps I

will treasure them instead --
keep them in a box of curios
to enjoy when I grow old.
